Fan World Championship Launches With MotoGP
Doha, Qatar: MotoGP™ Championship Quest, the official MotoGP™ mobile racing game has hit the iTunes App Store as the first ever free to play game that will pair the thrilling experience of MotoGP racing with the hundreds of millions of fans of the sport around the globe who use mobile phones and tablets. Fans can download the game from the iTunes exclusively for a limited time, before a global roll out on the Google Play and Amazon App Stores. Regular game updates and find tutorial videos at www.championshipquest.com Co-Founder of the company Graeme Warring said “When we took on the challenge of producing a game for the fans of MotoGP™ we did so for all the fans, not just the hard core gamers amongst them.
By making the game free to play we knew we would reach a really broad audience and so we needed to ensure that the racing experience would be fun for everyone that picked up the game.” The development team at WePlay.Media studied play groups, feedback from competitive titles and harnessed their own deep bench of expertise, to devise a play mode which makes the game widely accessible, simple to play and most importantly focused on the real skill in racing, timing. Warring said “Our development path became really obvious once we listened to fans and consulted with some of the riders in the MotoGP™ series and got feedback from amazing guys like former 500cc World Champion Kevin Schwantz. Winning races is done under brakes, braking as late as possible into corners and then rolling on the power as soon as possible while still maintaining control of the machine” With this in mind the team set about solving the massive challenges of taking complex physics models and distilling them into a game which would be as visually appealing as a broadcast telecast and as fun and as challenging to master as possible, while keeping the focus on simplicity.
“We think the result is really beautiful” said Warring. “To play the game is to get a first hand view of the bravery and skill involved in racing MotoGP™ and to appreciate the impact fractions of a second can make in reaching the podium.” The game will initially feature all 2015 season MotoGP riders, five Grand Prix circuits and then new ones will be added each month. As the 2016 series liveries and track signage is confirmed a 2016 season update will be quickly introduced to ensure authenticity of the experience.
“The other key feature we bought to this game is a very direct connection from the fans to their favorite MotoGP™ rider” said Warring. “During the research phase of development it dawned on us that while most of the current racing games out there generally to a great job of entertaining players, they lacked a connection to the heroes of motorsports the fans so admired.”
The Fan World Championship™ is the result of this discovery. “It was one of those epiphanies which sends chills down your spine, we created a Championship for the fans, where those who chose to race as their favorite rider will contribute every single score they generate to that rider. While they are racing for their own entertainment, in the bigger picture they are racing for their hero and contributing in a very personal and meaningful way” The Fan World Championship™ aggregates the collective scores of the MotoGP™ racers fans and produces a result which is reflective of the fans efforts, and not the popularity of the racer.
“We didn’t want the Fan World Championship™ to be a popularity contest because if it were, the riders leading the live championship would win every week, instead we wanted to make it about the fans contribution to their rider, effectively democratizing the MotoGP™ field and focusing on fan engagement” Each week a Fan World Championship™ podium will be decided and the racer with the highest average fan score will win that round, the fan who contributed the most points to that rider will win that round of the Fan World Championship™ and a beautiful trophy promptly shipped to the first, second and third place getters along with t-shirts and other swag.
At the end of the year the MotoGP™ racer with the highest average fan score will be crowned the MotoGP™ Fan World Champion™ winner and likewise their fan with the highest point score contribution will win the annual title along with valuable prizes.
Pau Serracanta, Managing Director at Dorna Sports S.L. said “We are really excited to introduce this game to the fans of MotoGP™, we are very proud of the quality of the game and most importantly we are looking forward to seeing the fan engagement with the riders through the Fan World Championship™. The global appeal of MotoGP™ means that millions of fans around the world follow the championship and this game will give them the opportunity to really connect with the sport and their favorite rider”
